Degen Design Studio is an independent creative agency founded by Simon Heerdegen, a multidisciplinary digital artist, animator, writer, app builder, and creative director. We specialize in high-quality digital content across video, animation, design, development, and written media — using AI-enhanced workflows to deliver professional results efficiently and cost-effectively.

Simon holds a B.A. in Film and Digital Media from the University of California, Santa Cruz (2011) and brings over a decade of creative experience, including:

• Film editing and digital media production

• Brand launches and campaign strategy

• Advertising and content creation for startups and marketing firms in Silicon Valley

• Commercial television work

• Narrative short film writing and production

• NFT design and distribution — including several successful collections

• Social media growth — building online communities into the tens of thousands in just a few months

• Full-cycle app development

• Is a Dad to a 6 year old boy who inspires a strong work ethic in his dad.

While teaching full-time for more than ten years — including advanced humanities, digital storytelling, and AP courses — Simon consistently freelanced year-round on creative projects across tech, media, and education. He also worked in adolescent crisis intervention, supporting youth in high-stakes mental health environments. These experiences inform a media practice grounded in empathy, clarity, and purposeful storytelling. In 2023 Simon left education to dedicate his time to parenting a pre-schooler. In 2025 Simon is ready to work full time and pivot permanently as a private sector digital creative.

Simon is also the creator of Calm Craft AI, a wellness and entertainment app featuring sleep stories, meditations, animations, journaling tools, games, music, and community features — fully designed and built from the ground up.
